I like Hondas when it comes to engines. but overall, Toyota is my favorite right now!
So if you like those makers as well, go with Supra(toyota) or S2K(honda).
Acura is fine too

@jose, I watch initial D (anime) and you get to see all kinds of JDM stuff there so cool! My favorite is definitely LanEvo = Lancer Evolution! Those are totally real deal.

In the US, you won't find a 240SX for less than $5,000 because of the mark up from owners.
Same for S2000's.
Supra's are even more costly.
There are plenty of better cars with newer technologies.
Instead of a 240SX, you can get a used Toyota 86, Subaru BRZ, or an older Scion FR-S for around $10,000-15,000.
They come with 200 HP and that's how much power comes with an SR20DET swap for a 240SX.
If you want to spend lots of money, you can get a 2015+ Subaru WRX. It comes with a twin-scroll direct-injected turbo engine, torque vectoring, a viscous center differential. You can pick one up for $18,000-20,000 used. And it's AWD.
Both of these are available new as well. You can pick either of them for $25,000 + tax and title.
Most people only buy the older or more classic JDM cars because of the image, iconic looks, and nostalgia associated with them.
There are plenty of options nowadays. If I bought a 240SX (or 180SX in japan), I wouldn't spend more than $3,000 for a completely factory version. It is very hard to find one these days.
And also, I used to have a 240SX S13 myself. I wish I kept it. But I prefer the newer technologies available in other cars.
Happy car hunting.
